The Bible was written to instruct us about Christ and the salvation that is in Him. In so doing, it unfolds His person, offices, and works in a way that shows us just what His nature is. PRAYER TO GUIDE AS YOU STUDY GOD'S WORD
Dear Lord,
We praise and thank You for the gift of Your Word, the Bible, and for the guidance of Your Holy Spirit. May Your Word keep us in contact with You and grow us in faith. We're thankful not only for Your promises, but most of all for Your saving grace and Your unfailing love.
You have shown us, in the Bible, Your very nature. Open our eyes, O Lord, that we might behold better Who You are in Your Word. May we trust Your promises, keep Your commandments, and spread Your redemption message to all nations.
Lord, forgive us when we have lightly taken the Bible and not read or meditated upon your Word. You have told us to seek first your kingdom, so enable us to put first things first and you first in our hearts.
Let the word of God take root in us and be developed. We invite the Holy Spirit to guide us as we regularly read and meditate upon Your Word. May Your Word go deep into our hearts and souls to live accordingly and act upon its wisdom.
We need a further understanding of Jesus Christ - His nature, His examples that were set for us. Lord, teach us how to live a life to please You. Give us the courage to let Your Word teach us, instruct us, convict us, and change us.
Search our hearts, Lord, and lead us to repentance and obedience. As we dig into Your Word, remind us that we are handling the very words of God, which give light to your nature and your purpose for our lives. Give us guidance and direction within Your Word as we go through the confusion and chaos of this world.
Give us hearts that desire to be fed with Your Word. Create within us this desire and eagerness to understand Your truth. Give us an appetite and a thirst for Your Word to be nourished into Your likeness.
May our hearts' desire be to serve You and follow You all the days of our lives.
